Dr. Sandra Field

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the death of co-founder, Dr. Sandra Field.

Sandra’s legacy with Joye in Aiken is profound and enduring. Since co-founding the organization in 2008 alongside Gregory White Smith and Steven Naifeh, Sandra has been a transformational leader whose vision and passion shaped every facet of our mission. What began as “Juilliard in Aiken” under her guidance evolved into “Joye in Aiken,” a name that not only honors Joye Cottage but also reflects the joy she brought to our community through the arts.

Her foresight and unwavering commitment to excellence helped bring over 700 world-class artists to Aiken, enriching the lives of more than 50,000 students through our Outreach Program. Sandra believed deeply in the power of the arts to uplift and inspire, and she worked tirelessly to ensure that these experiences were accessible to all.

Our 2025/2026 festival will be dedicated to Sandra’s memory and to honor her legacy. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are greatly appreciated.
